It came to my attention by way of demanding pop-up windows that my computer’s disk was full. It kept repeating that there was no remaining memory and that I had to delete files if I wanted to continue adding more. Basically, a photographer’s worst dream. Every one of the 20,000 or so photos I’ve taken over the past 2 years is saved on my external hard drive back in nyc, (far from my current niche in Barcelona) but I won’t have possession of it until January. Reluctantly, I began deleting photos from 2007 and 2008, knowing I’d regret not being able to look at them whenever I wanted. Then it occurred to that if I took screen shots of small sets of images in my library, I could save little compilations of images that represented a important memories and visual images. As I took various ‘proofsheet‘-like shots of the images, I realized these small image compilations forced me to examine my shots in a series, to be able to critique my shooting method and the patterns of photos taken one after another, in the same minute or so. It became a project and manifested a deep interest in my ideas of arrangement. This blog is the result! I love the idea of looking a digital photos as proofsheets. Too often, because of the lack of focus and specificity given to digital images, they are not viewed as a whole, and there are many wasted shots and moments. I hope to sharpen my eye, learn more about my art, share my love of photography, as well as present my memories and experiences in a new light through this project.
